Aila Onerva Hauru (SPP ’17, Finland)

October 1, 2015

Aila is studying at CEU this year thanks to the supporters of the Alumni Scholarship, next|generation

In her own words:

I graduated with an IB diploma from the United World College of the Adriatic, in Italy, and a BA in Intercultural Relations and Behavior from Jacobs University, in Germany.

Since high school I have initiated and taken part in many social initiatives ranging from planning and carrying out a volunteering initiative in Caracas, Venezuela, to organizing the first Women’s International Leadership Conference at Jacobs University. I was also a founding member and a co-president of the Jacobs Feminist and Queer Equality Alliance which sought to increase LGBTQI awareness on campus.

The problems facing the world today are extremely complex and interconnected and thus require complex solutions. I believe that CEU, with its interdisciplinary approach to education, will prepare me well for my future career and provide the necessary tools to participate in solving global problems.

I sincerely thank the alumni donors for making it possible for me to fully concentrate on my studies.
