Mariana Mdzeluri (GENS ’17, Ukraine)

October 1, 2015

Mariana is studying at CEU this year thanks to the supporters of the Alumni Scholarship, next|generation

In her own words:

Although my first academic degree was in architecture, early in my student years I developed a strong interest in social issues.

My fascination with gender theory led to my involvement with feminist and LGBTQI activism in Kyiv. I joined a Kyiv feminist group focused on grassroots political activism and sharing gender knowledge. I have co-organized a number of educational and cultural initiatives.

This experience has considerably extended my competence in gender theory and raised my awareness of current gender issues in Ukraine and other post-socialist countries. However, feeling the need for fundamental knowledge of the subject, I enrolled in the Master’s program in Critical Gender Studies at CEU.

I wish to thank the alumni donors for their support, which was truly crucial and made it possible for me to obtain cutting-edge academic background in gender studies. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to become a member of the CEU international network.
