Valeriia Amitina (LEGS ’16, Ukraine)

October 1, 2015

Valeriia is studying at CEU this year thanks to the supporters of the Alumni Scholarship, next|generation

In her own words:

I hold a BA in Philology from Zaporizhzhya National University in Ukraine and an MA in European studies from Lund University in Sweden.

My enthusiasm to change the world to a more democratic place has always been my compass in my volunteer endeavours. Always passionate about human rights, I engaged in different initiatives such as teaching kids in India, fundraising for an organization supporting Turkish orphans, contributing to a women’s rights NGO aimed at ending child marriages.

As women’s rights became my prior field of interest, I joined the OSCE Gender Section as an intern to assist with a project focusing on inclusion of gender perspective and UNSCR 1325 commitments into peace-building efforts in Ukraine. Experience made me realize that I need more technical knowledge to further pursue human rights advocacy. Therefore, I applied for an MA degree in Human Rights Law at CEU, which I believe will enable me to make a valuable contribution to law enforcement in Ukraine.

I’m very thankful to the CEU alumni donors for giving me this unique chance to realize my goals and become a CEU ambassador to inspire other young Ukrainians to step on fulfilling path that CEU offers.
