Benjamin Hayward (HIST ’17, Canada)

November 4, 2016

Benjamin is studying at CEU this year, thanks to the supporters of the Alumni Scholarship.

In his own words:

I believe in taking responsibility for the impact we have on others, which for me means putting in the effort to make the world a better place, reducing unethical consumption and consumerism, and using Western privilege to financially support global causes.

For the past five years, I’ve worked as the Assistant Editor of the Global Intelligence, a world affairs magazine with a human-rights focus. I’ve been privileged to be able to work while traveling, and have subscribed to effective altruism, pledging 10 percent of my earnings to charities that can most effectively improve the lives of others. My CEU degree will both help me grasp the bigger picture of our place in the world and push me further along in my career in journalism.

The Alumni Scholarship will provide a significant level of support, because of my low-income and low-impact lifestyle. Without it, I couldn’t afford to focus on my studies at CEU. I would like to thank all alumni donors for making my enrollment in the MA-History program possible.
