Züleyha Izin (GENS ’17, Turkey)

November 4, 2016

Züleyha is studying at CEU this year, thanks to the supporters of the CEU Alumni Scholarship.

In her own words:

I earned two Bachelor degrees, in International Relations at Gazi University and Sociology at Middle East Technical University. After working as a research assistant at Muş Alparslan University I received an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship for the Euroculture master program, through which I studied at different European universities and realized the first step of my master thesis on the ‘‘growing feminist awareness’’ among Muslim women in Spain.

I’ve volunteered for human rights projects, including Capital City Women’s Platform, one of the first and most prominent associations introducing Islamic feminism to the Turkish women’s movement, and interned at two different women’s associations in the U.S. I have also collaborated with different Muslim women’s associations in Spain.

Thanks to the Alumni Scholarship I can continue my project at such a prestigious institution and department, through which I hope to make my way to PhD. Thank you, donors!
