Big Year for Alumni-Supported Students
This year’s Alumni Scholarship Recipients (ASRs) had a huge year, impressively balancing study with more than 1100 hours of service to the CEU community, through volunteerism, philanthropy, arts and media and more. Twenty-seven students, from 22 different countries, received the scholarship this academic year.
Students organized the first CEU Environment Week, seeking answers to pressing issues of sustainability. Others documented and helped their classmates navigate the CEU experience by contributing the CEU Student Space blog.
ASRs helped ‘pay it forward’: in partnership with the Student Philanthropy Council, students raised funds through this year’s Philanthropy Week, particularly the Bake It / Make It Forward fundraiser, the latter helping raise funds for student scholarships and the InDaHouse Charity.
Eight ASRs also joined dozens of their classmates and made their first, symbolic contributions to CEU via the Graduating Class Gift.
Students also had fun, hosting two lively CEU Pub Quizzes, with proceeds going toward the Alumni Scholarship. Others showcased their talents participating in this year’s Open Mic Night.
Others shared the power of the arts. Vuk Vukovic (POLS ’19, Serbia) hosted a series of improv workshops. Polina Vershinina (POLS ’20, Russia) held painting workshops during Philanthropy Week and Alumni Leadership Forum. Rebeca Marques Rocha (SPP ’20, Brazil) shared her love of music by DJ’ing several events, including the End-of-Year Chillout party and this year’s Alumni Reunion Gala in Budapest. ASRs Tetiana Horban (IR ’20, Ukraine), Jorge Antonio Chavez Mazuelos (IR ’19, Peru) emceed the event.
Selected according to their records of community service and leadership potential, this year’s ASRs were provided alumni-funded stipends through the CEU Alumni Campaign. (Tetiana wrote a blog post of how the scholarship helped her.)
Thanks to this year’s ASRs for giving back to the community. We hope they’ll stay engaged with and support the CEU community wherever life takes them! Special thanks to CEU alumni donors for making this all possible!
