Obama Appoints CEU Alumnus Kounalakis to Advisory Commission Post

Markos Kounalakis, a CEU alumnus (IRES PhD, ’16) and a fellow at CEU’s Center for Media, Data and Society was appointed by President Barack Obama last week to serve as a member of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy (ACPD).

Markos is a veteran journalist and author who has, in his words, ‘covered wars and revolutions, both civil and technological.’ He serves as President and Publisher Emeritus of the Washington Monthly and is also currently a Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.

He also serves on the Board of Councilors at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, and the Board of Advisors at the University’s Center on Public Diplomacy. Read more about Markos, and also take a look at some of his foreign policy writings.

The ACPD conducts research assessing public diplomacy efforts and disseminates its findings through white papers, reports and other publications. It reports to the U.S. President, Secretary of State, and Congress.
