Kassel Franco Garibay (Mexico, GENS '23)

October 5, 2021

Kassel will be joining the MA in Critical Gender Studies program. She has a BA in Women's and Gender Studies and International Relations from Drew University. Passionate about human rights, gender equality, girls’ education, and LGBTQ+ rights, she has held an array of jobs and internships, including stints as an immigration paralegal, research assistant focusing on SGBV, and social media coordinator for an initiative working to empower indigenous girls.

What is your goal in life?

To learn how to best serve, empower, and support LGBTQ+ youth in Mexico.

Why did you choose your course of study?

I have a background in working and volunteering with NGOs to support and empower women of color. I am excited about learning more about how to use theory to continue working with the communities I'm part of.

What do you hope to gain from your time at CEU?

I’m excited to meet people from all over the world, continue my gender studies education, and learn how to be a better advocate.
