Andrej Hagan (IR '18, United Kingdom)
Andre is studying at CEU this year, thanks to the CEU Alumni Scholarship.
In his own words:
I graduated from University College London with a BA in Czech (with Slovak) and East European Studies. The degree’s interdisciplinary nature allowed me to explore the region by various approaches – my thesis focused on parallels between Kafka and Vamos in their questioning of identity.
I also studied discrimination against Roma children in the Czech education system. This, plus my interest in Central and East European cultural identity and ethnic minorities, led me to get involved in political projects and to volunteer at a London school. Since then I’ve been teaching at schools in Prague and working extensively with children elsewhere in the Czech Republic.
The Alumni Scholarship will enable me to continue these passions in Budapest. I look forward to using my experience to enhance CEU's wider impact. I’m extremely grateful to CEU's alumni donors for the opportunity to engage and in supporting my further education in this field!
