We are proud to announce CEU’s new Sustainability Advisory Committee (CSAC). It builds upon CEU’s reputation as an innovator in the field of international education by demonstrating the university’s willingness to embrace sustainability.

The Committee, guided by the university’s Sustainable Development Policy, facilitates CEU’s commitment to the principles of sustainable development whereby, “Development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” (World Commission on Environment and Development within the Brundtland Report, 1987). The Committee, which is composed of faculty, students, staff and administrators, engages the CEU community to promote sustainability in education, research, management, operations, and outreach.

"The redevelopment efforts currently underway pose an incredible opportunity to demonstrate CEU’s commitment to sustainability." - CSAC Committee Chair Tamara Steger

Although CEU is a well-known base of intellectual inspiration and guidance for promoting open and democratic societies, incorporating basic sustainability measures at the university remains a key challenge. According to CSAC Committee Chair Tamara Steger “We have only just begun to work on even the most elementary sustainability measures at the CEU campus. The redevelopment efforts currently underway pose an incredible opportunity to demonstrate CEU’s commitment to sustainability, and there is the chance to introduce some kind of green certification process like BREEAM which would make CEU not only a center of research excellence, but also an emergent model of sustainability for other learning institutions in the region.” She adds, “There is an incredible amount of enthusiasm around making these important changes, including the noteworthy efforts made this year by a student group called, ‘Sustainability Campus Initiative.’"
