Q: What do alumni in places like Serbia, Belarus, Georgia and Kazakhstan, to name a few, have in common?

A: They are all welcoming their future fellow alumni - new CEU students - into the university's global family this summer and preparing them for the upcoming academic year.

CEU Alumni and Friends chapters across Eurasia are hosting Pre-Departure Orientations for students readying to leave for Budapest. Typically held in cafes or pubs, these events offer students an opportunity to learn about the CEU experience from the people who have lived it - our alumni.

Pre-Departure Orientations allow students to speak with alumni about life in Budapest and on campus, and also to meet and establish connections with fellow new students from their country.

In July a number of chapters have or will host Pre-Departure Orientations, including Armenia, Kazakhstan, Serbia and Georgia. Alumni in Belarus and Slovakia will do the same in August. Russian alumni have invited new and prospective students to their annual picnic in Moscow's Gorky Park, on August 4. Alumni in Mongolia are also considering a pre-departure event.

Pre-Departure Orientations are a great way to assist new students while strengthening local chapters, and their ties to CEU. If your chapter doesn't host such events but you'd like it to, write us and we'll help you get started.
