Q: What's one of the best resources newly-accepted CEU students have?

A: Alumni

Case in point: This year dozens of CEU alumni groups around the world came together to welcome the next generation of students to the CEU community.

From June to August, alumni in three continents hosted a record 25 Pre-Departure Orientations (PDOs) for new students. A total of 100 alumni participated, greeting more than 100 students preparing to leave for Budapest and begin their studies at CEU.

This is the largest number of PDOs and participants in CEU history, and a sign that this community is on the move!

Fun and informal, PDOs are a great way to welcome and nurture the newest members of the CEU community. Typically held anywhere from cafes to consulates, these sessions allow new students to meet with their future fellow alumni and get the lowdown on what to expect from student life in Budapest and at CEU.

Alumni also offer guidance on things like housing, visa issues, the cost of living and, of course, how to have a good time as a postgrad in the Hungarian capital.

PDOs were held in the following countries this year:

Kyrgyzstan

Belarus

Moldova

Turkey

Spain

Norway

Mexico

Ukraine

Russia(x2)

Lithuania

Bulgaria

USA

Romania (x2)

Croatia

Slovakia

Macedonia

Serbia

Georgia

Austria

Bosnia-Herzegovina

Czech Republic

Belgium

Kenya

Turkmenistan

Events ranged from the intimate, to large gatherings. Alumni chapters in the United States and Serbia reported the biggest gatherings of both new students and alumni. See below for photos:

Chances are, your local chapter had something to do with this year’s PDOs. That’s great. If not, why not learn how to get involved for next year? We’ll show you how. Write us.
