More than 65 CEU alumni and friends met at London's Hungarian Cultural Centre, on Tuesday, November 10, for a special reunion with President and Rector John Shattuck and distinguished guests. (See photos.)
The evening included remarks by President Shattuck, Hungarian Ambassador Peter Szabadhegy, and former Ambassador and CEU alumna Borbala Czako (IMCE '90), plus a lively Q&A and reception.
President Shattuck spoke of the University's recent successes, and lauded alumni involvement in recruitment and philanthropic support. He also fielded some tough questions regarding CEU's role in context of the current political climate in Hungary, insisting that the University's intellectual independence is secure—and more relevant than ever.
Now in his final year at the helm of CEU, President Shattuck also shared plans for his post-CEU life, including projects at Yale and Harvard and a book about his time in Central Europe.
Turnout for the event was great, and included three CEU couples, one graduate's 2 ½ month-old baby, plus members of CEU's recently-established Loyalty and Milestone societies.
Alumni were encouraged to introduce themselves to their fellow graduates, and nearly 25 percent of attendees also made a gift or pledge on the spot to the CEU Alumni Campaign.
Thanks to everyone for making it a great event!
