CEU history was made last month with the opening of two stunning new buildings at Nador u. 13 and 15. Incorporating state-of-the-art features and sustainable design, these new additions conclude Phase I of CEU’s three-phase campus redevelopment project. SEE PICTURES and VIDEO.
Designed by award-winning architects Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey and their Hungarian partner M-Teampannon, the buildings feature high-tech classrooms, expanded communal space, a 400-seat auditorium and a five-floor library, home to the region’s largest English language collection. The buildings were the first in the region to earn “Very Good” rating from BREEAM, the world’s leasing sustainability assessment. SEE NEW CAMPUS IN THE HUNGARIAN MEDIA
In addition to the new buildings, Phase I of the project also saw greater consolidation of CEU, with the CEU Business School relocating to Nador 13. Phase II is now underway and will include replacing the Oktober 6 utca 13 building, renovating the Nador u. 9 Faculty Tower and more. Final completion of Phase III is expected in 2020.
CEU is currently fundraising for the project, which is financed in part via a loan from European Investment Bank. The total cost is estimated at 34 million euros, with additional funding for modernizing the library and IT/AV functions. CEU alumni are encouraged to help support the new campus by contributing to the NextCampus fund of the Alumni Campaign.
