This is huge!

CEU alumni in Budapest and around the world have taken action in defense of their University, which is currently being targeted by legislation that could drive it from Hungary. (See photos below.)

On Sunday, April 3 alumni in Budapest were among the approximately 10,000 people who joined in a grassroots march to the Hungarian Parliament demanding academic freedom for CEU and throughout Hungary.

Over the weekend and in preceding days other alumni groups held smaller demonstrations of support of CEU in Brussels, London, Berlin, Vilnius, Tallinn, Saint Petersburg and elsewhere. Some events, such as that in London, took place outside the Hungarian embassy, where signs reading #istandwithCEU / #aCEUvalvagyok were affixed to the door.

Alumni in Croatia, Moldova and elsewhere, have forwarded letters of solidarity and support. In addition alumni in the United States have contacted their legislators to support CEU’s fight to remain in Budapest.

Note: the above is only a partial list of alumni groups who have taken action. Has your group gotten involved? Let us know so you and your fellow alumni and friends can be recognized.

We sincerley thank the thousands of CEU alumni and friends who have gotten involved – signed petitions, demonstrated, and shared calls for action. For the latest, join the main CEU Alumni Facebook group and also see the #istandwithCEU webpage and hashtag on social media.

Alumni are still encouraged to write a letter of solidarity with CEU. Please fill out the consent form and be sure to include your school/department, graduation year and valid email address. Finally, are you and your fellow alumni doing something to help save CEU that we missed? Write us!
