CEU alumni were there as the university welcomed its first-ever cohort of students to its Vienna campus on Monday, September 30.
Approximately 30 alumni, mostly from the Austrian Vienna chapter, attended the Student Welcome Reception held at CEU’s new campus on Vienna’s Favoriten district. See full story and photos.
Attended by more than 200 new students, the event featured addresses by President and Rector Michael Ignatieff, who lauded the assistance and support of Austria-based alumni in aiding the transition to the Vienna campus.
Board of Trustees member Edeltraud Hanappi-Eggeralso praised the entire community’s efforts in the speedy transition. The fact that CEU had opened a new campus under such constraints proves that “it’s possible,” she said.
CEU Alumni Relations Head Nena Grceva (GENS ’05) and Alumni Chapter Leader Anna Bara (HIST ’03) also spoke.
Vibrantly multinational, the attending alumni mingled with and welcomed new students, underscoring strong ties the CEU community is known for. Others volunteered to guide students in walking tours through the city. Thank you, alumni!
Attending alumni also got their first tours of the campus, months ahead of the official November 15 opening ceremony.
Thanks to all alumni who joined this historic event!
