
The CEU Teaching Excellence Award honors faculty members who demonstrate exceptional teaching, inspire student learning, and embody CEU’s mission and values in the classroom.
Established by the CEU Senate in 2014, the award affirms the university’s strong commitment to teaching quality and acknowledges those whose contributions to student learning and academic life stand out as exemplary.
We warmly invite students, alumni, and faculty to submit nominations for this year’s award.
Eligible nominees are full-time resident faculty who have been with CEU for at least three years.

How to Submit a Nomination
To nominate a faculty member, please send all required documents in a single email to:

Nominators should work with the nominee to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the submitted materials.

Nomination and Selection Processes
Excellence in teaching is the primary criterion for the CEU Teaching Excellence Award. Additionally, nominees must demonstrate a commitment to the CEU mission, broadly defined.
The following list outlines possible characteristics, contributions, initiatives, or results to consider for nominations. This list is indicative, not exhaustive:
- A history of high-impact teaching in CEU courses that are intellectually and professionally rigorous and challenging.
- Outstanding ability to stimulate intellectual excitement and motivate students to learn; a proven track record of providing support, encouragement, and inspiration for students; thoughtful mentoring and guidance; accessibility in and beyond the classroom.
- Promotion of diverse ideas and opinions; fostering effective and responsible critical thinking.
- Responsiveness to student needs; openness to different learning styles and approaches.
- Cultivating an atmosphere of integrity, civility, and respect in the classroom.
- Effective teaching across divisional boundaries; support for multidisciplinary approaches; effective use of research in teaching.
- Innovative course design and development, informed by research on student learning and best practices in teaching. Approaches outlined in the CEU Strategic Plan are particularly welcome, including:
- Greater integration of research and teaching.
- Appropriate incorporation of technology in course design and meaningful use of technology to support student learning.
- Use of problem-based learning and case studies.
- Development of new interdisciplinary approaches to teaching.
- Other research-based teaching strategies.
Nomination Materials:
Please submit the following documents as part of the nomination package:
- Letter of Nomination: This letter should highlight the nominee's dedication to teaching and their success in promoting student learning. It should provide concrete examples of effective teaching and mentoring activities that align with the criteria outlined in the Call for Nominations.
- Letter of Support (Optional): Letters can be from current students, former students, or faculty colleagues who are familiar with the candidate's teaching. These letters should offer specific examples of how the nominee meets the CEU Teaching Excellence Awards criteria.
- Abbreviated Curriculum Vitae: The nominee should provide a CV that includes a list of awards, honors, special recognitions, selected publications, service, and other significant contributions (2-3 pages).
- Reflective Statement: The candidate should submit a statement on their teaching and learning philosophy, practices, and objectives. This statement should explain how the assessment of student learning informs their teaching practice and include concrete examples of effective teaching and mentoring activities. It should address the criteria for the award.
- Syllabi of Courses: Include syllabi of courses taught in the past two years. Note that student evaluations for these courses will be reviewed by the Awards Committee and provided directly to the committee by the Office of the Pro-Rectors.

Selection Process
The Teaching Awards and Prizes Committee — comprising faculty members, one student representative, and chaired by the Director of the Yehuda Elkana Center for Teaching, Learning, and Higher Education Research—will review all submitted materials and select the award recipient.
