Alum Michael Utsaha (LEGS ’05) passes

We are saddened to share that CEU alum Michael Tarnongo Utsaha (LEGS ’05) passed away on March 14, 2023. He was 53 

Michael studied at CEU on the LL.M. in Human Rights program as a Fellow of the Open Society Justice Initiative. He worked as a human rights lawyer in his home country Nigeria. He was also a social commentator and a humanitarian who worked selflessly to support the poor and the needy, woman and children. 

Alumna Pavlova (LEGS ’05) passes

We are saddened to share that CEU alumna Elena Pavlova (LEGS ’05) passed away on December 22, 2022. She was 40.

Elena was a corporate lawyer and lived in Bologna, Italy. After receiving her degree in Comparative Constitutional Law from CEU, she studied Political Science at Athens University.

She is survived by her husband Claudio, son Nicola, parents Petr and Galina, and brother Artem. She will be missed.

Our deepest condolences to Elena’s family, friends, and fellow alumni.

CEU Alumnus Njoya Tikum (LEGS '06) among the 100 Most Reputable Africans

The Legal Studies Department and Alumni Relations Office congratulate alumnus Njoya Tikum from Cameroon (IBL 2005/06) for being included on the 2023 ‘100 Most Reputable Africans’ list compiled by Reputation Poll International. Njoya was included on this list for his work as Manager of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Regional Office for West and Central Africa.

CEU Alumni Come Together for Ukraine

On February 24, the world woke up to troubling news from Ukraine: neighboring Russia had launched a full-scale invasion of the country from which over 700 CEU alumni hail from. As Ukrainians and people of other nationalities living in Ukraine fled for their safety, hundreds crossed the border with Hungary in those first days. CEU was ready to help: we immediately offered vacant dorm rooms at the Kerepesi Residence Center (RC) in Budapest to our Ukrainian alumni and their families.

Another Successful Year for the Alumni Scholarship Program

On June 14 the Alumni Relations Office hosted a closing ceremony for this year’s cohort of Alumni Scholarship Recipients (ASRs). We gathered on campus in Vienna to toast and celebrate the success and contribution of these students to the CEU community. Several alumni and former ASRs were in attendance as well.
