Wenqian Zhang (HIST '19, China)

October 5, 2017

Wenqian is studying at CEU this year, thanks to the CEU Alumni Scholarship.

In her own words:

Before CEU I earned a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from Peking University. Trained in the research of various regional literatures, I’m sensitive to identity politics, and interested in the issue of marginalization.

I believe writing is a positive way to comprehend and change the lives of others. In recent years my volunteer works focused on marginal groups, like economically disadvantaged students, migrant workers, and patients with rare diseases. But after working as a journalist, I found their voice weak in mainstream society. That’s why I chose CEU. Benefiting from CEU’s Open Society mission, I can get in touch with minority communities on a global scale.

I’d like to thank the alumni donors for supporting my studies. It’s a great honor to be an Alumni Scholarship Recipient. I will combine historiography knowledge with my writing skills to contribute to the diversity of CEU. Thank you!
