Q: Who’s that man in the hat?

A: It’s CEU alumnus Peter Bročka (LEGS ’09), and he’s just been elected Mayor of Trnava, Slovakia.

The independent candidate won election earlier this month and is slated to take office on December 12. Among other things, his DIY campaign utilized clever personal branding and a slick website, complete with a nine-point plan ‘For [a] Better Trnava.’

Peter said he seeks to make Trnava, his hometown, an example to others. Since 2010 he has led several popular initiatives to improve life in urban areas, and is often seen cycling around town, mowing park lawns, painting playgrounds and having public discussions with fellow citizens. (Check out his campaign website.)

A graduate of the International Business Law program, Peter cited CEU’s international environment as an inspiration enabling him to examine issues from a global perspective, while finding solutions to fit within local contexts.

Now he’s putting that into practice in Trnava.

Congratulations Peter, and best of luck in office!
