CEU alumnus Ezra Chiloba Simiyu (DPP ’08) was named Commission Secretary and CEO of Kenya’s Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on January 12.

He replaces James Oswago and his deputy Wilson Shollei, who were suspended for impropriety in Kenya’s March 2013 elections.

A specialist in electoral governance and political management, Ezra is former deputy team leader at Drivers for Accountability, a senior fellow at the Policy House and a member of the Law Society of Kenya.

Before coming to CEU, Ezra earned his BA studying law at the University of Nairobi.

Founded in 2011, the IEBC is an independent regulatory agency responsible for conducting or supervising referenda and elections to any elective body or office established by Kenya’s constitution.

Congratulations, Ezra!
