CEU alumnus Adam Bodnar (LEGS ’01) was recently elected Ombudsman by a vote of the Polish Parliament.

According to Polska Newsweek, he will serve as “the vanguard of change, warn politicians against potential risks to individual rights, and criticize when they take actions that threaten them.”

Adam will reportedly operate close to the public, establishing a “map of violations of civil rights,” and monitor and respond to regulatory changes that he feels violate human rights.

Born in 1977, Adam has distinguished himself in the field of human rights, serving as Vice President of the Board, Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights in Warsaw; Member of the Board of Trustees of the UN Voluntary Fund for the Victims of Torture; and lecturer in the Depart of Human Rights at the University of Warsaw, among others.

Congratulations, Adam!
