CEU Alumna Leshchenko new World Bank Manager for Liberia

CEU alumna Larisa Leshchenko (ECON ’93) was recently named World Bank Country Manager for Liberia.

Her duties include leading the bank’s day-to-day dialogue with the Liberian government and key stakeholders on issues including structural reform, portfolio management, country partnership strategy and more.

Larisa joined the bank in 1996 as an Operations Analyst in the Europe and Central Asia (ECA) Region and has since held various positions including Senior Economist in Ukraine, Senior Country Officer in Nigeria and in Southern Africa. Her most recent assignment was as Country Manager for Azerbaijan.

Prior to her time at the World Bank, Larisa worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Cybernetics and the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences.

Larisa, who holds a PhD in operations research studied at CEU’s former Prague campus, from 1992-93. She also holds an economics MA from New York State University and an MA equivalent from Kiev National University.

A former research fellow at Oxford, Larisa is author and co-author of several World Bank publications and research papers.
