We are deeply saddened to report the passing of CEU alumnus Artak Galyan (POLS ’10, Armenia), who died on Tuesday after a prolonged illness. He was 35 years old.

In addition to earning his MA, Artak was a PhD candidate and teaching assistant with the CEU Department of Political Studies, where he forged many strong friendships with classmates and faculty. His career achievements included stints as a Fieldwork Coordinator with the Institute for Political and Sociological Consulting, and as an intern with the United Nations Development Program in Pristina, Kosovo, among others.

Artak was loved by many. After he suffered a cardiac arrest and slipped into a coma in 2016, the CEU community – including friends and classmates, plus staff and faculty – helped raise thousands of euros to help defray his medical costs.

He will be very deeply missed. Our most heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and classmates.
