Interview: Polish Ombudsman, CEU Alumni Speaker

Polish Ombudsman and CEU alumnus Adam Bodnar (LEGS ’01) took to the podium as Alumni Speaker at CEU graduation, on Monday, June 24. The CEU Alumni team caught up with him beforehand to talk work, human rights, his student days and the power of CEU. See below for what he had to say.

 As Polish Ombudsman you’re doing very important work. What motivates you?

In Her Own Words: Natalia Szczucka

CEU alumna Natalia Szczucka (SOCI PhD ’06) works as Head of the European Commission’s Regional Representation in Wrocław, Poland. Previously she served as Director for Organizational Development at Amnesty International’s European Office in Brussels, as well as for the Office of the High Representative in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the UN Transitional Administration in East Timor.

On June 23, she Natalia congratulated CEU’s Class of 2018 as Alumni Speaker at this year’s Graduation ceremony.

What should people know about you?

In His Own Words: Jaap Scholten (SOCL ’09)

Alumnus Jaap Scholten (SOCL ’09, Netherlands) was 44 years old and an accomplished novelist when he began study at CEU. After graduating he converted his MA thesis, detailing the fate of Hungarian nobles under forced collectivization, into a prize-winning bestseller. Comrade Baron: A Journey through the Vanishing World of the Transylvanian Aristocracy was published in Dutch in 2010; an English version appeared three years later.

Ákos Gyula Deliága (BUSI MBA ’16)

Ákos is a CEU Business School alumnus and co-founder and managing director of the Talk-A-Bot startup. He has more than nine years’ experience at Hewlett Packard Enterprise, in international business development, and holds both an MBA and MSc in IT engineering. A husband and father, Ákos is 33 years old.

CEU alumnus Kevindaryán Luján (IRES ’14) is an American human rights activist and legislator, representing the 4th District of New York State’s Orange County.
