Croatian chapter launches "CEU Alumni Talks" series

What's new with CEU alumni, you ask?

That’s what the CEU alumni chapter in Croatia wanted to find out, and thus launched its first-ever “Alumni Talks” series this month. 

The concept is simple: give alumni a forum to discuss issues of importance to them - their work, research, business ideas, etc. - and the general audience. Film. Share. Repeat. 

Moldovan president honors CEU alum for aid work

CEU alumnus Sergiu Botezatu (ECON ’94) was recently honored for his civilian aid and development work in his native Moldova. On Nov. 27 he was presented with the Meritul Civic medal by the President of the Republic of Moldova, Nicolae Timofti, in recognition for his work with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

Alumnus wins Mayoral seat in Slovakia

Q: Who’s that man in the hat?

A: It’s CEU alumnus Peter Bročka (LEGS ’09), and he’s just been elected Mayor of Trnava, Slovakia.

The independent candidate won election earlier this month and is slated to take office on December 12. Among other things, his DIY campaign utilized clever personal branding and a slick website, complete with a nine-point plan ‘For [a] Better Trnava.’

Alumna Bermet Tursunkulova named Kyrgyz Deputy Education Minister

CEU alumna Bermet Tursunkulova (IRES ’99) has been appointed Deputy Minister of Education and Science for the Kyrgyz Republic.

Appointed on Oct. 27, 2014 by order of Prime Minister Joomart Otorbaev, Bermet will now oversee issues related to higher education in Kyrgyzstan.

Record-breaking Philanthropy Day raises the bar

The CEU community raised more than $1,100 during last week's Philanthropy Awareness Day, shattering last year's record and demonstrating major grassroots support for the University.

The Thursday, Nov. 13 event drew more than 300 CEU alumni, students, staff and faculty to the Monument Building’s Octagon for home-baked treats and CEU-branded water bottles.
