Alumnus Taleski Named NATO Ambassador

CEU alumnus Dane Taleski (POLS '15) has been named Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Republic of North Macedonia to NATO.

Ambassador Taleski presented his credentials to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg last month, January 18, 2021. He is the first Permanent Representative of the Republic of North Macedonia, after it became the 30th member of the alliance in March 2020.

Alumna Vladeva Passes

We are saddened to report the sudden passing of CEU alumna Magdalena Vladeva (IRES ’15, North Macedonia). She was 38 years old.

Magdalena worked as a diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Permanent Mission of the Republic of North Macedonia to the United Nations in New York, a post she had reportedly held for the past two years.

She is remembered by her classmates as an exceptional friend and a positive person always ready to help others.

Our deepest condolences to Magdalena’s family, friends and classmates. She will be missed.  

Alumnus Avramov Passes

We are saddened to report that CEU alumnus Andrej Avramov (ENVS ’99, North Macedonia) recently passed away. He was 60 years old.

Andrej had a long career as an environmental engineer. Since 2017 he worked as Senior Environmental Engineer with Italian construction and engineering firm Salini Impregilo. From 2012 to 2013 he oversaw the environmental protection plan for a gas booster station in Kuwait.

Andrej was remembered by friends as a friendly, good natured professional with a calm personality and a “beautiful mind.”

The Biggest Lesson: Alumna Earns CEU Distinguished Teaching Award

It was late winter, 2020. Erzsebet Strausz was in New York, and things were getting worrisome.

Covid-19 had arrived, putting the city in lockdown and snarling travel. A Department of International Relations alumna (IR ’08) and assistant professor, Strausz had her hands full trying to advise and keep safe a dozen CEU students studying at the Bard Globalization and International Affairs Program.
