Alumni Host Record Number of Student Welcome Events

More CEU alumni than ever before welcomed new students to our community this summer.

Alumni hosted a record-breaking 39 Pre-Departure Orientations around the world for new students preparing to leave for Budapest. That’s nine more than last summer, and sixteen more than in 2014!

This year’s PDOs drew nearly 300 students and alumni, on five continents. While attendance was strong in central and southeastern Europe, this year’s largest events were in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. (Photos below)

Obama Appoints CEU Alumnus Kounalakis to Advisory Commission Post

Markos Kounalakis, a CEU alumnus (IRES PhD, ’16) and a fellow at CEU’s Center for Media, Data and Society was appointed by President Barack Obama last week to serve as a member of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy (ACPD).

CEU Mourns Passing of Sudish Niroula

CEU mourns the sudden passing away of a former student Sudish Niroula (SPP '14)  who died in a motorcycle accident last weekend. He was 29.

Sudish studied at CEU's Department of Public Policy from 2012-13 before graduating from Mundus MAPP in 2014. After his studies he returned to his home country, Nepal, to work for IsraAID providing humanitarian aid at the time of the earthquakes. He planned to begin a doctoral program at the University of Tokyo, Japan from September.

CEU Alumna Leshchenko new World Bank Manager for Liberia

CEU alumna Larisa Leshchenko (ECON ’93) was recently named World Bank Country Manager for Liberia.

Her duties include leading the bank’s day-to-day dialogue with the Liberian government and key stakeholders on issues including structural reform, portfolio management, country partnership strategy and more.
