Alumnus Zapata Named Deputy Minister for Defense Policy in Peru

CEU alumnus Librado Orozco Zapata (IRES '02), has been appointed Deputy Minister for Defense Policy in Peru.

Librado is a career diplomat and ambassador with the Diplomatic Service of Peru. His academic background includes study of Arts and Law at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica del Peru; a postgraduate degree in International Relations from the University of Oxford; and a master's in International Relations and European Studies from CEU and New York State University. Additionally, he holds a PhD in Contemporary History at the University of Szeged.

Alumnus Krudy Earns Journalism Fellowship

Edward Krudy (HIST '04), a journalist with Reuters news agency in New York, was recently awarded a prestigious Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in Economics and Business Journalism at Columbia University.

This mid-career fellowship provides full tuition and a living stipend for experienced journalists to take graduate courses at Columbia's Schools of Business, Law and International and Public Affairs. Fellows also attend special seminars at the Journalism School, led by scholars and business experts during the nine-month program, which begins in August.

PDOs: CEU Alumni Worldwide Assisting New Students

Fact: alumni are the best asset new students have in preparing for life at CEU. And with Academic Year 2016-17 only two months away, alumni around the world are coming together to help new students do just that.

This summer, several CEU alumni chapters worldwide, in collaboration with Local Area Coordinators, are hosting special Pre-Departure Orientation (PDO) sessions for newly-accepted students. (See event list below.)

What a night!

More than 70 CEU alumni and friends celebrated their University's silver jubilee in style at a very special 25th Anniversary Alumni Reception in New York City on Tuesday, June 7. (See below for photos.) 

Held at the Hungarian Consulate in Manhattan, the event featured outgoing CEU President and Rector John Shattuck's final address to an alumni audience, during which time he lauded the University and its global alumni community.

CEU Alumni Meet in Washington D.C.

We finally made it back to Washington D.C. - this time to celebrate CEU's 25th Anniversary Year in style!

More than 30 CEU alumni and friends from the nation's capitol and beyond came together on Wednesday, June 8 for a fun and energetic Alumni Happy Hour at the Bonfire restaurant in the capitol's DuPont Circle neighborhood. (See photos below.) 

Hosted by Serge Sych (IRES '97, LEGS '99), CEU Vice President, the event was the biggest CEU reunion in the area in the last two years and was a great opportunity for old friends and classmates to reconnect.
