Alumnus Kounalakis Earns Second Presidential Appointment

CEU alumnus Markos Kounalakis (IRES PhD, ’16) was recently appointed by President Barack Obama to the William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. This is his second presidential appointment in recent months.

Prună 2nd CEU Alumna to Head Romanian Justice Ministry

Raluca Alexandra Prună (POLS '98) has served as Romania's Minister of Justice since November 2015. She is the second CEU alumna to hold the post, after alumna and CEU Board of Trustees Member Monica Macovei (LEGS '93), who served from 2004 to 2007.

Prior to her appointment, Raluca served in numerous unit leadership roles within the European Commission, dealing with topics including organized crime, surveillance, migration flows and free movement of goods and others. 

CEU Alumni, Professor Named Top ‘Changemakers’ in Central Europe

CEU alumni Aleksander Tarkowski (SOCI '07) and Marek Antos (LEGS '13), and Department of Sociology Associate Professor Prem Kumar Rajaram were named to the New Europe 100 list of changemakers in Central and Eastern Europe.

Compiled by the Financial Times, Google, the Visegrad Fund and Res Publica, New Europe 100 highlights the region's "brightest and best" people and organizations with creative solutions in society and politics, business, media and culture.

Obama Appoints CEU Alumnus Kounalakis to Advisory Commission Post

Markos Kounalakis, a CEU alumnus (IRES PhD, ’16) and a fellow at CEU’s Center for Media, Data and Society was appointed by President Barack Obama last week to serve as a member of the U.S. Advisory Commission on Public Diplomacy (ACPD).
