Serbian Alumni Rally for National Fund

Approximately 20 alumni and friends gathered in Belgrade last week to support CEU students from Serbia – and to save their national scholarship fund.

The Saturday, May 27 “CEU Afternoon Gathering” took place at the Cultural Centre Belgrade and included social and fundraising elements, as well as a pre-departure orientation for local students set to begin studies in Budapest this fall.

CEU Alumni Event in London Largest Yet

CEU alumni in the U.K. just hosted their biggest and perhaps most important event yet.

More than 70 alumni and friends met on Thursday, April 27 at London’s Hungarian Cultural Centre for a meeting with CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff. (See photos below)

The president spoke about CEU’s ongoing fight to retain its academic freedom and exchanged remarks with the evening’s special guest, Hungarian Ambassador Kristóf Szalay-Bobrovniczky.

CEU Alumni: a Weekend in Solidarity

CEU alumni and friends took to the streets in Budapest and beyond this weekend in continued support of their university and academic freedom. (See pics below.) 

Alumni were among the tens of thousands of people who joined in a massive protest in Budapest on Sunday calling upon Hungarian President János Áder to veto legislation targeting CEU.

CEU alumni and friends in Budapest and beyond continue to say #istandwithCEU in opposition to the Hungarian government's attempts to shut it down.

Alumni were among those attending a thousands-strong grassroots demonstration—the second in Budapest less than a week—that occurred outside campus on Tuesday in opposition to legislation targeting CEU.
